CRESPOGRAM REPORT

NOVEMBER 14, 2012

IT’S A CUBAN THING
THE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT LOOKS OUT FOR ANY AND EVERYONE EXCEPT THE TAXPAYERS

Fifty years after Cubans started coming to Miami, and long after Cuban radio and television stations had become the dominant media in this community, only the City of Miami would think that it’s important to continue to provide discounted office space to  a group called The National Journalists’ Association Of Cuba In Exile, Inc., supposedly for the purpose of “providing office space for the unification of Cuban Journalists living in exile.”

And here I thought that the “unification of Cuban Journalists,” was something that went on inside the offices of the dozen or so TV stations, and even more radio stations, and at the Versailles restaurant every day.

But no, in Miami, where a lot of “unification” for Cuban journalists in exile happens inside the Mayor’s Office, it seems that the Regalado administration intends to continue providing a “meeting place” for folks, who otherwise it seems would be left to depend fend for themselves like Americans are supposed to do.

Given the success of Cubans - especially the older generation of exiles - on radio, TV and newspapers, you would have thought that by now they would have managed to ween themselves from government welfare?

After all, it’s these same Cuban exile journalists who are the ones who’ve been among the loudest complainers about the entitlements and welfare that have led to the downfall of America because of the socialism practiced by the Obama administration.

Yet, here they are, happy as piglets to line up at the trough eager for discounted rent. And not just discounted rent, but super discounted rent.

Here’s the copy of the Resolution going before the City Commission this week for a vote.

So, not only is this a sweetheart deal, but instead of charging them the reduced rack rate, minus the 25% discount, the City is charging them even less.

And this isn’t the only Cuban outfit getting a sweetheart deal.  There’s also the Cuban Pharmaceutical Association who has an office in the same building for $136.81 a month, and whose supposed purpose is to provide “guidance to individuals needing assistance with certification of their professional licenses.”

Really, after 50 years, pharmacists who are Cuban can’t get help from the real pharmacist’s association?

And then there is the Spanish American League Against Discrimination who pays $111.90 a month.

Of course these give aways aren’t just limited to Cubans.

PULSE, one of Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones favorite organizations gets their 2070 square foot building for FREE.

But the best part about this giveaway to the Cuban Journalists In Exile group is that is that this group is supposedly led by two guys who don’t even live in Miami.

One guy lives in West Miami, and the other guy lives in Hallendale.

Think I’m joking.  Here is a page from the tax return they provided the City.

I wonder what the folks running the City of Hallandale would say if Mr. Garica, who lives in their fine city, went and asked them for office space to house The National Journalist Association of Cuba In Exile, Inc.?

Only In Miami, Bitches!
