CRESPOGRAM REPORT

MARCH 15, 2013

THE PARK WILL REMAIN AT FULL SIZE
FLATIRON PARK

Last October I wrote a story about the small triangle piece of land that is situated at the South end of Mary Brickell Village that has become known as Flatiron Park.

At the time, the developer Mallory Kauderer wanted to trade a 3000 sq. ft piece of that property for the southern half of the Allen Morris Park that sits on the corner of SE 10th Street and 1st Avenue.

I, along with several other folks had gone to the Planning and Zoning Appeals Board (PZAB) meeting and spoken against the trade.

My argument was that the value of the Allen Morris Park was far greater than the 3100 sq foot - largely useless for development - piece of property that Kauderer was willing to trade for it.

After the meeting I sat down and wrote my story laying out all of the issues in far more detail than I had been able to do at the meeting.

I am pleased to announce that at a subsequent meeting of the PZAB, Mr. Kauderer decided that it would be more equitable to trade the city the entire 8900 sq. foot park for the Allen Morris Park property.

I think it’s a far better deal for the city, and I think that the enhancements that Kauderer made in creating the park, and the way that the park has become a venue for a small famers market are all to the good for the folks who live in that area.

Here are some photos when the park was being built and what it looks like now.
