If you read my story on Monday about the behind the scenes activity surrounding the attempt to bribe then Chief of Police Miguel Exposito to resign, you know that the $200,000 check that was issued, came from a restricted account under the control of City Attorney Julie Bru.

You’ll also, if you watched either of the 2 video clips I posted know that the then members of the Miami City Commission - Commissioners Carollo, Gort, Sarnoff and Suarez - all expressed outrage, concern, and a desire that this incident be investigated by the appropriate legal authorities.

It wasn’t.

But, because it wasn’t included as part of the investigation that was conducted, and because the statute of limitations has not expired, I have written the letter below as a way to see whether the Commissioners have the courage of the convictions that they expressed on July 14, 2011 that this was a very serious issue, or whether they will wimp out and whine their way into displaying embarrassing cowardice when it comes to making principled decisions.

Make no mistake, this is an either/or issue.

Either the members of the City Commission stand up and follow through on their statements made at the July 14, 2011, Commission meeting that this incident demanded an investigation, or if they refuse to seek such an investigation, you’ll know just how spineless and cowardly they are, and that people need to start right now looking for new candidates to challenge each and every one of them at their next election.

Here’s the letter.
