How dumb is City Manager, Johnny “The Doormat” Martinez?

This dumb.

At last week’s City Commission meeting, the Mayor, Commissioners and Martinez all came together to give a proclamation to departing CIP Director, Albert Sosa.

When it came time for Martinez to add his two cents, he described just how much of a team player Sosa had been by describing the following incident.  It starts at 40 seconds in.

Mr. Joseph Centorino

MIAMI-DADE ETHICS COMMISSION

19 W Flagler Street

Miami, FL

Dear Mr. Centorino:

I am writing to file an ethics complaint against Miami City Commissioner Marc Sarnoff for what I believe was an abuse of power.

At the September 27, 2012, Commission meeting, there was a presentation to Mr. Albert Sosa, the CIP Director who had resigned.

In the wake of that presentation, Mr. Martinez recounted receiving a phone call on a Sunday morning at “7 AM” from Commissioner Sarnoff, complaining about some issue involving “dogs and leaches,” and claiming that unless this issue was immediately resolved he would “lose 10 votes.”

I have included a copy of the portion from the Commission meeting as evidence.

Please understand that this revelation was made openly and without prompting by the City Manager, and goes to the core of the conviction held by many in the City of Miami that whether it’s free tickets, free City-Wide Parking Decals from the Miami Parking Authority, the ability to call up the Chief of Police when stopped for a traffic violation, the illegal use of a private residence to house a law firm, or any number of other abuses that I’ve recounted over the last several years, it is evident that the elected and appointed officials of the City of Miami operate on the principle that they make no distinction between the legal and illegal exercise of their power, because all of the benefits and resources of the City are theirs for the taking.

Calling the City Manager at 7 AM on a Sunday morning, and demanding action on something that the Commissioner considered might have a negative impact on the number of votes he would receive in his reelection efforts, clearly is an abuse of power for political reasons.

As always, I will look forward to you action on this matter.

Cordially,

Al Crespo

It isn’t often that you have a public official essentially spill the beans on an act of abuse of power, and so, I’ve filed an ethics complaint against both Sarnoff and Martinez.

It just goes to show you just how ethically challenged ALL of these people are when it comes to treating city employees and city resources as theirs for the taking.

Here is my letter to the Ethics Commission.

It’s Miami, Bitches!
