CRESPOGRAM REPORT

FEBRUARY 6, 2013

WHO HASN’T SCOTT WESSEL OWED MONEY TO
SCREWING THE HELP

I don’t spend much time at the Federal Courthouse, but last week when I went to get the copies of all of the responses in the Spence-Jones lawsuit, I spent a little time surfing their computer system looking to see if any of my favorite folks names popped up.

Wouldn’t you know that Scott Wessel’s name did.

It seems that a couple years ago Scott tried to screw one of his employees at Scotty’s Landing out of his wages, and the person got pissed enough that he took Wessel and his wife to federal court.

In researching this phenomenon it turns out that screwing their employees out of wages or tips seems to be a regular occurrence by restaurants in South Florida.

In Wessel’s case, one of his cooks sued claiming that Wessel and his wife had failed to pay him his wages for all the time over 40 hours a week plus any overtime.  Supposedly he did this for 154 weeks. (See paragraph 9 below.)

That comes out to $45,045 in lost wages, and certainly enough money worth going to Federal Court over.

Below is a copy of the Amended Complaint against Scotty’s landing, Wessel and his wife, and below that is a copy of the settlement agreement where it says, “The parties thus stipulate that the Plaintiff is receiving 100 percent of his wages and overtime plus liquidated damages, costs and reasonable attorney’s fees pursuant to the settlement terms between the parties.”

Now if Wessel would just pay off the $3,182,099.27 he owes in back taxes, that would be a wonderful thing!

It’s Miami, Bitches!
